Vermithor the Bronze Fury was the dragon of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen, the second largest dragon in the world after Vhagar in the years before the Dance. Jaehaerys rode him for more than half a century, and the great bronze beast knew the touch of the Old King above any other.
After Jaehaerys died Vermithor went riderless and made his lair in the smoking caverns of Dragonmont on Dragonstone. There, in the early days of the Dance, the seed seekers (bastards and smallfolk of suspected Targaryen blood) came to try to claim him. Hugh Hammer, a blacksmith's bastard with hair like beaten gold, was the one Vermithor accepted. Hugh flew him for the blacks until the Second Battle of Tumbleton, where Hugh's treason ended in his own murder and Vermithor was slain by Seasmoke and Tessarion together, after burning the better part of two armies first.
