A knight of the red-apple Fossoways, heir to Cider Hall in the last years of King Daeron II Targaryen and the first of his grandson King Aerys I. He rode to the great tourney at Ashford Meadow in 209 AC with his younger cousin Raymun as his squire, intending to enter the lists. When Prince Aerion Brightflame fell upon the Dornish puppeteer Tanselle and Ser Duncan the Tall struck the prince to the dirt in her defense, Steffon and Raymun parted the crowd with their men-at-arms in defense of the hedge knight, and Steffon pledged Duncan his sword and swore to find five other lances for the trial of seven that Prince Baelor Breakspear had set against the prince's accusers. By the dawn of the trial he had taken Aerion's silver instead — switched sides, took his place among the prince's seven, and justified himself to his cousin with the boast that he would be Lord Fossoway at the end of the day. When Raymun in his disgust scraped his apple green to fight under Dunk's banner, Steffon called him "still green" in mockery and rode out under his ripe red. He was unhorsed by Ser Duncan in the press and walked from the field a forsworn man, his lordship-to-be lost with Prince Baelor's death in single combat, and his loyal cousin's green apple raised in time at Cider Hall's expense to the cadet seat of New Barrel.
