Ser Simon Strong was the great-uncle of Lord Larys Clubfoot and brother of Lord Lyonel's father, an old man kept on at Harrenhal as castellan when his nephew rose at court. During the Dance of the Dragons, with Larys at King's Landing on Aegon II's green council, the keeping of the cursed castle fell to Simon. When Prince Daemon Targaryen took Harrenhal for the blacks, Simon and his grandsons were taken captive. Ser Criston Cole won the place back for the greens not long after, and Prince Aemond Targaryen, half-mad on dragonback and certain Simon had played the traitor, put the old knight, his grandsons, and every other trueborn or baseborn Strong he could find within those walls to the sword. Only Alys Rivers was spared.
