A King of Winter in the centuries before the Conquest, who took Bear Island back from the ironborn after the death of King Loron Greyjoy. By the singers' tale he did so not by storm and siege but by winning a wrestling match against the island's iron-tongued lord; the maesters of the Citadel doubt the wrestling, but not the conquest. Having no son to send there, Rodrik gave the wind-blown island to the Mormonts, and they have held it as the Starks' bannermen ever since. His own sons and grandsons fought the ironborn back across Cape Kraken in the years that followed.
