Rodrik Arryn

Lord of the Eyrie in the long reign of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen, taken to husband by the king's shy daughter Princess Daella after she had refused half a dozen other suitors at her father's prompting. The match was Queen Alysanne's choosing (the falcon-throne, the queen reasoned, was high and quiet and far from the throngs of King's Landing, and the Vale lords would be gentle with their lady), and a year and a half into the marriage Daella was brought to bed of a daughter, Aemma, and died of childbed fever before the babe was weaned. Lord Rodrik raised the girl at the Eyrie until she went south in 93 AC to wed her cousin Prince Viserys, who would become king after his grandfather's death.
