Younger twin of Aerea, born at Casterly Rock while her parents Aegon the Uncrowned and Rhaena Targaryen hid from the Poor Fellows, and a bold willful child by all accounts, a terror to her septas. After her father fell in battle against Maegor and her mother was brought to court as the king's bride, Tyanna of the Tower found the hidden girls and used them as surety for Rhaena's obedience; as the younger sister she was sent to Oldtown to be trained as a septa at the Starry Sept, while Aerea was kept at King's Landing as Maegor's heir. When Rhaena fled on Dreamfyre to join Prince Jaehaerys, Maegor sent a rider commanding Lord Hightower to take her head, but the lord refused and imprisoned the messenger instead. Following Jaehaerys's coronation in Oldtown she turned utterly to prayer and study, prompting whispers that the twins had been switched, a rumor revived when Lord Rogar Baratheon sent his brother Orryn to demand her of the High Septon so she might be crowned in Aerea's name; that plot failed, and she took her vows in 58 AC. Queen Alysanne, who met her among the septas tending the city's sick, pronounced her a learned and devout young woman though much given to stammers and blushes, and when her mother came seeking the lost Aerea she embraced her and said, I have had the best mother any child could wish for, the Mother Above, and you are to thank for her.
