A young Fossoway of the red-apple branch, born of a cadet line of Cider Hall and cousin to Ser Steffon Fossoway, the heir, with whom he came to the great tourney at Ashford Meadow in 209 AC. When Prince Aerion Brightflame's assault on the Dornish puppeteer Tanselle drove Ser Duncan the Tall to strike the prince to the dirt and a trial of seven was set in answer, Raymun and Steffon stood by the hedge knight in the Fossoway pavilion and pledged him their lances; in the night that followed Steffon was bought off by Aerion's promise of a lordship and forsook his oath, but Raymun would not be moved. On the morning of the trial he was knighted upon the field by Lord Lyonel Baratheon, the Laughing Storm, and rode for Dunk's seven with the same shield Steffon had mocked him in. To set himself plainly apart from his red-apple cousin he scraped the ripe red from the apple and painted it green, throwing Steffon's old jape that he was "still green" back at him with the answer that he would sooner be green than rotten. He fought Steffon to a standing draw upon the trial field, and for his loyalty was raised in time by King Aerys I to a lord in his own right, founding the green-apple cadet branch of House Fossoway that holds New Barrel to this day.
