First of his name, fourth and youngest son of Daeron II, raised to the throne at fifty after the deaths of all three of his brothers and their sons. A grim, dour soldier-king who had won renown crushing the Second Blackfyre Rebellion but cared little for the courtly arts. He died on campaign in the Vale putting down a mountain lord, struck on the head by a stone hurled from a tower, and left the realm a confused succession that broke open into the Great Council of 233 AC.
