Lord of Highgarden in his time, born sometime around 237 AC or before, and a man his wife Olenna would say in her old age she had loved well enough — a kind man, not unskilled in the bedchamber, but an appalling oaf all the same. He was betrothed in 237 AC while still heir to Highgarden to Princess Shaera Targaryen, the only daughter of King Jaehaerys II; three years on the prince stole into her sister-bride bed at the queen's wedding eve and the betrothal was put aside without notice given. He wed Olenna of House Redwyne thereafter — said by some to have stolen the match from her elder sister — and she gave him a son in Mace and two daughters in Mina and Janna. He died the lord of his house upon a flat-topped clifftop, his eyes turned to a covey of falcons climbing above him in the wind, paying so little heed to the ground his horse was upon that the destrier rode him straight over the edge. After his death his son the new Lord Mace once asked Tyrion Lannister at the royal wedding of King Joffrey whether his lord-father had ridden off that cliff on purpose, a question of his lady-mother's that he had never thought to ask himself.
