King of Winter in a long-forgotten age, remembered for driving raiders from the mouth of the White Knife — Ibbenese, ancient Valyrians, or early Andals, the maesters can no longer say which — and raising a stronghold there which men called the Wolf's Den. The Den he passed in time to his sons and grandsons as a kingdom-in-miniature within the north, and from it the Wolf's Den Starks would for centuries hold the lower White Knife in the name of Winterfell. His son Rickard, called the Laughing Wolf, broke the Marsh King and bound the Neck to the Stark realm.
