Edric Storm

Born
287 AC
Titles
  • Acknowledged bastard of King Robert

A sturdy boy with the jet-black Baratheon hair and deep Baratheon blue eyes, born in 287 AC at Storm's End and acknowledged in writing by his royal father — the only one of Robert's many bastards to be given that grace, because Delena Florent who carried him was of noble birth, and because the king had got him upon her in his brother Stannis's own marriage-bed during the wedding feast itself. Stannis took the offence of it to his grave; he had the babe and his mother sent to be fostered at Storm's End under his other brother Renly and the keeping of Ser Cortnay Penrose, and there Edric was raised in a hall full of cousins by tutors and a master-at-arms. His father remembered him on every name day with a gift sent from King's Landing — a pony, a sable cloak, a small warhammer cut to a boy's hand — though Lord Varys chose them and the king laughed asking him afterwards what it was he had sent that year. When Stannis took Storm's End back from Renly's ghost in 299 AC and Ser Cortnay went from the wallwalk in a single fall, he had Edric carried to Dragonstone where the red priestess Melisandre meant to burn him on a nightfire for the waking of a stone dragon. Ser Davos Seaworth conspired to put him aboard the Mad Prendos under the keeping of his cousin Ser Andrew Estermont before the pyre could be lit, and the boy was sailed across the narrow sea to Lys, where he is yet hidden with his guardians and where his name has slipped from the songs that sing now of the only living son of King Robert that men can name.
