Son of Lord Aethan, who succeeded his father as Lord of Driftmark and as the admiral of the royal fleet under King Maegor I. In the confusion that followed the death of Dowager Queen Visenya in 44 AC, when Queen Dowager Alyssa, his sister, fled the Red Keep with her son Jaehaerys, the dragons, and the Valyrian steel blade Dark Sister, Daemon turned the fleet against Maegor and brought it over to Jaehaerys's cause. Many of the great houses of the realm followed where the Velaryon admiral led, and Maegor's reign did not survive the year. King Jaehaerys, the Conciliator, kept Daemon at his side after, and named him Hand of the King.
