Eldest son of Emmon Frey and Genna Lannister, a knight who took more after his mother's house than his father's, with the look and bearing of a lesser Lannister cousin. After the rout in the Whispering Wood and the breaking of the camps before Riverrun, the queen sent him north under a peace banner to lay Cersei's terms before Robb Stark, and he was kept on at the castle when the king in the north would not treat. When Lady Catelyn freed Jaime Lannister in the dark hours after word of Bran and Rickon's deaths reached her, she set Cleos to ride at his cousin's side and the maid Brienne of Tarth to guard them, that they might carry the Kingslayer south against the return of her daughters. The three slipped from Riverrun by skiff down the Red Fork and pressed on by stolen horse through a country gone to ruin under the war, and there on the road, ambushed by outlaws in the wood, Ser Cleos took an arrow through the face and was dead before he struck the ground.
