The Stark king at the heart of the wildling tale of Bael the Bard, as Ygritte tells it on the lonely heaths beyond the Wall: a Lord (or King) of Winterfell named Brandon the Daughterless, who in fact had a daughter and lost her, for many months, to a free folk bard who climbed his walls in winter. The old chronicles of the maesters of Winterfell make no mention of any such Brandon, nor of any daughter, and Maester Yandel doubts the whole. Jon Snow, hearing the song from Ygritte at Castle Black's reach, calls it false. Yet the wildlings sing it still.
