Brother to Lord Alester Florent and uncle to Queen Selyse, Ser Axell holds Dragonstone in the king's absence as castellan, and stands first among the queen's men in their devotion to R'hllor. Where Alester's loyalty to Stannis broke at the Blackwater, Axell's hardened: when his elder brother was given to the Lord of Light's pyre, it was Axell who urged Stannis on. He pressed in turn to be made Hand, and bore the king's preference for Ser Davos Seaworth poorly. A short, bandy-legged man with a thick red beard, he is by Davos's measure a fool, but the queen loves him, and he sits at the king's council still.
