When the Old Bear sent envoys south in the closing years of King Robert's reign to beg men and stores from the great lords of the south, Ser Arnell was chosen as the embassy's chief for his steadiness in the saddle and his kinship to Highgarden's friends — for a sworn brother of the Watch may make no claim of blood beyond the Wall, but a southron lord with kin in black at his gate will sometimes loose a wagon of grain where he would loose nothing for a stranger.
