Eldest child of Prince Doran and Mellario of Norvos and, by the customs of Dorne where firstborn inherits regardless of sex, heir to Sunspear. Olive-skinned and black-haired and small and full-figured and four-and-twenty, with a temper that runs hot where her father's runs cold. She has believed since girlhood that her father means to set her aside in favour of her brother Quentyn, and on that belief she founds her great folly: in A Feast for Crows she steals her cousin Myrcella Baratheon out from under the household at Sunspear, means to crown her queen by the same Dornish primogeniture that gives Arianne her own seat, and is caught before she has ridden three days. The chase ends with Ser Arys Oakheart dead, Myrcella half her ear and most of her cheek shorn away by Ser Gerold Dayne's blade, and Arianne herself locked in a tower of Sunspear for her father to walk through whenever he is ready to tell her the truth: that he has been plotting for Aegon, not against her, all her life.
