Portrait of Aemon Blackfyre

Aemon Blackfyre

Born
184 AC
Died
196 AC (aged 12)

Second-born of Daemon I Blackfyre and Rohanne of Tyrosh by mere minutes, twin to his brother Aegon and his brother's match in cruelty — Alyn Cockshaw, who as a boy had taken his blows from the pair of them along with their small brother Daemon, called the twins witless bullies, and Daemon's prophetic dream of their joint deaths the twins met with laughter. He was twelve and squiring for his father when the host of the black dragon broke against the king's men on the Redgrass Field in 196 AC, and saw Ser Brynden Rivers's arrows out of the Weeping Ridge cut down first his brother Aegon, then his father Daemon I where he stayed by the body. He himself ran to his dying father and took up the great Valyrian sword Blackfyre as it slipped from his fingers, that the sword should not pass to the king's men with his father's body; and Bloodraven shot him also from the ridge with the same arrows, before he had had time to raise the blade. Eustace Osgrey wrote afterwards: thus perished the black dragon and his sons.
